Russell "The Muscle" Howard (or is it "The Mussel?")

Born penniless and naked in a shack in the deepest woods of Northwest Iowa, Russ Howard was merrily riding his sheep on his way to milk the chickens one day in the 70s when he had an awakening. A vision. A vision possibly induced by spending way too much time alone on the farm. A vision of fame, of fortune. He promptly rushed to the phone and ordered one Acme Shiny New Electric Guitar. Life has never been the same...

Howard's musical upbringing started as a child. He performed in various bands throughout junior high and high school, bringing his skills as a guitarist to ever higher levels. He played with Going Nowhere for years before joining Hippie Go Lucky with Chris Radloff. Later they both played with the Smokin' Clams with Rick Swanson, then reformed Hippie Go Lucky for one last hurrah prior to starting The Muffintops. Having mastered blues, rock, country and a little punk, The Muffintops are the perfect band for Howard to blend his background into his own distinct style and sound. Yay! He has actually built quite a few guitars, but he's given them all away. He's like that.

A Sioux City native, Howard currently lives in an undisclosed location where he hangs out with his wife and two boys. Having recently joined the 20th century, Howard got his very own e-mail address last year, and has plans to eventually consider purchasing a television. His hobbies include interpretive dance and acting furtive.
